50 Ecodesign Directive All lights and lamps offered in this catalogue comply with EU Regulation 1194/2012 (Ecodesign). The directive with effect from 1 September 2013 sets down minimum requirements for lamp lifetimes, lumen mainte- nance and colour rendering. If you want to offer our light directly to end users, you will receive upon request the necessary information for creat- ing an energy effciency label according to EU Regulation 874/2012 (energy labelling). LED lights are the most economical lighting solutions. With their excellent energy balance and extremely long life, LED lights provide trouble and maintenance free operation for many years and the longer a bulb is in use, the greater is its economic and environmental advantage. This is why LEDs are the future of lighting. Life span of an LED light As with most electrical devices, the LED is also subject to ageing when operated. During this process, the luminous intensity of the lED is reduced. Halemeier determines the light value of its products based on a residual brightness rate of 70% of the initial bright- ness (delivery state). This often marks the end of the useful life of a product used for functional lighting. Once this point is reached, the LED light continues to operate, albeit with reduced brightness. It can however still be used for many years for accent lighting. Total failures occur very rarely with LEDs, and are usually due to incorrect operating conditions or thermal overload. Important: Life span information is worthless if the per- centage of residual brightness is not specifed. Since there is no compulsory standard here, manufacturers are allowed to specify LED lifetimes themselves. This should be noted when choosing your product. Manufacturers of conventional lights determine the life- time of their products by having them tested under stand- ardized conditions until the end of their life span. LEDs have a much longer lifetime than other light sources; however, it is generally not possible to measure their life span until the end. Long-term tests merely allow after a certain testing period to extrapolate the expected lifetime. Halemeier relies on documentation of leading LED manu- facturers and at the same time tests the complete product in its laboratories. Due to component tolerances and environmental influ- ences, we specify only a typical life expectancy and no minimum guaranteed lifetime. Further technical data in the catalogue Halemeier specifes only those values obtained with the complete product in its own laboratory and not on values taken from data sheets of LED manufacturer.
